Veteran's Day

Basil has a wonderfully sweet poem on Veteran's Day from J.L. Sager.

First stanzas:

It was a veteran, not a reporter,
Who guaranteed freedom of the press.

It was a veteran, not a poet,
Who guaranteed freedom of speech.

It was a veteran, not a campus organizer,
Who guaranteed freedom to demonstrate.

It's a heartwarming poem. Check it out.

  1. Its also BS. Intellectuals are the ones who change history. Not soldiers.

  2. It says guaranteed - not created. Without defense (and sometimes offense), the intellectuals are worthless.

I also wouldn't say the intellectuals change history - leaders do, innovators do. Intellectuals? No.
