Where's the Outrage Now?

(Hat tip: Michelle Malkin)

Many may remember the claims of racism attributed to the handling of Hurricane Katrina, the rumors of thousands of dead - most of them black; and the incredible rumors that the US government had blown holes in the levees in a way that was designed to kill black people. Thankfully, most blacks were too smart for this, but there were and are plenty of people on the left who believed and still believe some if not most of this to be true:
Andrew Baker, who lost his Tennessee Street home, is not only certain that’s what happened, he has a theory as to why: The east side of the Industrial Canal was breached to save the French Quarter, Uptown and the Lower Garden District.
“God didn’t play a part in this,” Baker, 55, said matter-of-factly. “They always do that. They flood the Lower 9.”

That the mysterious “they” flooded the neighborhoods of rich as well as poor, white as well as black, does little to dissuade true believers.

It’s a deep-seated belief that reached Capitol Hill last week when Dyan “Mama D” French Cole, a community activist in New Orleans, startled a House committee by saying that failure of some of the levees was the result of an intentional bombing. Although she was ridiculed for her comments, public figures, including Black Muslim leader Louis Farrakhan, have publicly supported the claim. More than 100 days since the storm, it has become an urban myth.
Farrakhan:
"I heard from a very reliable source who saw a 25 foot deep crater under the levee breach. It may have been blown up to destroy the black part of town and keep the white part dry." -- Louis Farrakhan speculates that New Orleans was deliberately flooded
Remember, this is in a city that was 67% black and 28% white: To hear all the rumors from the media, it is not so surprising that some think this was directed at blacks. But what the media is not showing are the latest updates:Forget the fact that the total numbers (about 900, not on here) don't even hit a thousand, let alone ten thousand like some were claiming. More interestingly, blacks were killed at a rate far below what one would expect, while the reverse was true of whites. Yet, there are still jerks like Farrakhan who insist it was a racist plot, and that the slow reaction was designed to hurt as many blacks as possible.

Why is this not a bigger story?

  1. Why is this not a bigger story?

Um... Because Farrakhan is a loon who nobody really cares about. Does the press report the daily rantings of David Duke? Would you be happier if the press paid more attention to these clowns?

  2. Not the Farrakhan part - the statistics that showed whites were more heavily hit despite all the cries of racism. Those cries were not just by loons, but by mainstream Democrats as well.
