Ezzie's Blog Roundup, 5/10: Join In

Straight to the roundup tonight, as I've already posted plenty of material today... Daled Amos also has a nice list of links.

*Post of the Day*
Tough call, but WestBankMama's post Rememberance Day for Little Girls is quite inspiring. Excerpt:
How do Jews react to senseless death? By bringing forth more life.

L'chayim.
That barely beat Hayom's excellent post about what the next gathering in Lakewood should not be about, after the terrible abduction there.

Sarah (she of the marvelous Melbourne pictures) tells us about a contest Emanuel has started:
"What is a Jewish photo? Is it the caption? The person who takes it? Or is it in the way a viewer see it? Every answer can be correct, but I want more. So I will present a challenge to you all, I would like you to take a photo, or use an existent one, and send me one that captures the essence of the Jewish Nation/People."
AbbaGav wants everyone to help free Alaa.

Batya wants your recipes!
Positivity:
JewishBlogMeister notes a $100 million dollar donation by a prominent Jew. Tizku L'Mitzvot, Mr. Zuckerman.

Israelly Cool notes the best quote of the day. As I said in the comments, this is far more important than people may understand.

Chana - in another heart-stirring post - is inspired by a friend.

Jameel talks about Elvis the drug dealer.
Israel:
WestBankMama starts a meme asking why people do or don't make aliyah, and Life in Israel answers first.

JoeSettler doesn't understand Israelis and their horns.

He also rips the MK who wants to get rid of kashrut certification - as does RafiG.

FrenchHill simply notes what's not being reported.
Questioning:
This sounds troubling, notes Orthomom.
Check them out!

  1. It is interesting (and sad) that Hayom picked up on a very real scenario for the handling of the abduction.

  2. Ezzie,
I am not trying to promote a post on my blog, but I think that in light of the internet asifa, and the general understanding that anything can be used for good or bad, that bloggers moderate commenters from being moshav leitzim. Perhaps its real moderation or perhaps its holding commenters to a higher standard...

This apparently was a concern of R' Matiyahu Solomon and unfortunately there is credibility to that as On the main Line points out.

We can either complain from the sidelines about the asifa or we can also make a positive impact on the Jewish blogosphere in a more realistic and rational way.

  4. JH - I think Hayom really (sadly) hit the nail on the head.

I hear your point, but I am of the opinion that it is up to people to be responsible for themselves, not for me to moderate what they're doing. If it gets out of hand, I'll reconsider.

WBM - I usually have it, but not always. Lately I hadn't.
