via Bad4:
“If I were again beginning my studies, I would follow the advice of Plato and start with mathematics.” ~ Galileo

  1. My impression is that math is like writing: you can practice and labor over it and get pretty good results, but it helps a heckuva lot if you have an inherent instinct. And like with writing, you develop that instinct with early and frequent exposure.

Sadly, the education I received neglected to teach me mathematical thinking until college.

  2. Ah, but you forget:

"If I were again beginning the dispensation of advice, I would alter my position and advocate starting one's studies with English literature."
    ~Plato

  3. Bad4 - Amen.

PS - LOL. Who knew that English literature pre-dated Plato! I guess it came as an appendix to the Torah.
