  3. OK, guys. So maybe I took the comment out of context a bit.

FFD (Frum Future Doctor) was saying was that the good parts of marriage outweigh the negatives. The problem is when people start taking the good aspects for granted and focusing on the negative parts. But, what FFD meant was that if you take a step back and view the good and the bad...then marriage is far better than some people make it seem.

Hey, I'm not married so I wouldn't know...

Why do so many singles look at being single as the worst possible thing in the world. Granted, marriage can be great, but how many marriages aren't? 50% end in divorce. Can we honestly claim that all (or even most) married people are significantly happier than single people?

  5. goo - your statistics are flawed; especially in religious circles where the divorce rate is FAR lower than the general population.
But I agree with you that the reason many people are not married is because they tell themselves "why bother, life ain't so bad as it is...who needs the additional stress?"
I am not married and as such cannot vouch for it. But when I ask my friends about marriage, they usually respond by saying "I highly recommend it."

  6. I wonder what one would wear to go Hobo shopping - would stockings be a necessity?

  7. No offense but the good doctor is making no sense...or he is just simply out of touch.

Is it his opinion that the greater singles population does NOT want to get married?

If so, I beg to differ.

  8. "goo - your statistics are flawed"

According to enrichment journal on the divorce rate in America:
The divorce rate in America for first marriage is 41%
The divorce rate in America for second marriage is 60%
The divorce rate in America for third marriage is 73%

"especially in religious circles where the divorce rate is FAR lower than the general population."

Sadly the rate is climbing in Frum circles as well. And it would be just as high if there wasn't the communal shame associated with it in the frum world.

My point is that I know just as many happy singles as I do happy couples and just as many miserable singles as miserable married couples.
