State Sen. Sues God

An interesting news day today, but this one was the best; I saw it in today's metro while riding the subway this morning:
The defendant in a Nebraska state senator's lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in the state's Douglas County, the legislator claims, because He is everywhere.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he is trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

I'm not sure suing God is a great idea this week, but it's certainly amusing. And it's certainly hard to argue with the disgust with frivolous lawsuits. I wonder if anyone is going to represent God in the Douglas County court. Plus, how can he prove to the Court that God actually is everywhere, or that God carried out whatever destruction he claims He did? Should be extremely entertaining!

  1. Heh. Reminds me of the guys who got fed up with Walmart's censorship and lobbied to get them to ban the Bible as well, on the grounds that it's full of unspeakable violence and rampant sexual immorality.
