Uncle Marvin & The Rabbi

Today is Pesach Sheni, the yahrtzeit of my Uncle Marvin. I originally wrote about him last year, and my father then posted a lot more about him later that day. As I just discussed some of my own favorite quotes earlier, it is only fitting that I note the last piece my father wrote:
I recently found his Masmid yearbook from Yeshiva University from 1954. The caption next to his name states, "Laugh and the world laughs with you". That is such an appropriate for Uncle Marvin, A"H. Y'hi Zichro Baruch.
This Shabbos, my first cousin - Uncle Marvin's oldest son - is going to be speaking at R' Arielli's shul in Kew Gardens Hills, up the block from us. R' Avram Goldish is the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Nesivos Hatorah, located off Rechov Yechezkel in Yerushalayim, in addition to teaching and speaking all over Eretz Yisrael and throughout the United States. As I wrote last year, his yeshiva is a small Charedi yeshiva dedicated to helping boys who have trouble in the larger institutions, and he is an accomplished speaker. He often speaks in the United States when he comes to collect money for his yeshiva... and he only flies first class if he gets bumped into it. (Even though he's a big 6'2 guy with a frock...)

What he did for me in my two years in Israel I cannot even begin to list, on top of all that he did in taking care of his mother for many years (Elianna's middle name is partially in her memory) and all the help he gave to others that very few people will ever know about. He saved me from absolutely miserable circumstances during my second year in Israel, helping me to return to OJ from a yeshiva where I was having a terrible experience, and I'll forever be indebted to him [and others] for that.

I believe he is going to be exclusively in the New York/New Jersey area on this trip; if you are interested in finding out more about his yeshiva and/or are interested in supporting the yeshiva, feel free to drop me an e-mail and I can attempt to put you in contact with him.

  1. The neshama of your Uncle Marvin should have an aliya!

Do you have details about the time your cousin will be speaking at Arieli's?
