Who Knows Canada...

...or more specificaly the greater Toronto area?

A small no. of brave, intrepid souls will be braving the harsh climate and making way to the great white north for a long weekend.

While in the area I will be in and about town on matters both recreation and serious*.

So, I am in search of recommended activities/destinantions during my international sojourn. Both for a small group, say 4-5, and a really small group...party of two*:)

Any ideas?

*in case that wasn't clear enough let me spell it out...D-_-T-_ (care to buy a vowel?)

Wait a second. Are they not used to this "harsh climate"!? Give me a break...! Moreover, "brave" and "intrepid" - which members of the clan are we referring to here, anyway? :)

  4. Oh, and clearly, when going to Canada, all you're buying are 'Eh's.

  6. Hi,

I'm one of the regular Torontonian readers of Ezzie's blog so if you are looking for recommendations, ask away.

For the record, Toronto is only a few degrees colder on average than NJ/NY. I've been talking to a few of my company's customers in the middle of one of them northern states and they are getting it much worse than us.

As far as Toronto goes, anything Jewish is centered around Bathurst St. If you are looking for a decent restaurant, let me know of your preference and budget.

What kind of activities are you interested in? I mean, besides a D_T_.

  7. re. D_T_: The ROM (Royal Ontario Museum); the Science Centre (I've seen enough people clearly on D_T_S there;Bata Shoe Museum; Castle Loma; there are also LARGE/LOUD game emporiums that can be fun.
Bathurst Street is the corridor for most restaurants; Eglinton Avenue, east and west of Bathurst, offer a few upscale milchig and fleischig restaurants.
Maybe a concert at Roy Thompson Hall or a live stage production -- many large and small theaters to choose from.
And we have Harbourfront area along the lake where they have outdoor skating, small gallery, shops nearby.

These places work well for large groups or a party of two, and if you want to be outdoors and check out trendy/ethnic neighborhoods, there's Queen Street West, there's Kensington Market (once similar to the Lower East Side), there's the Beaches area, too and the ever-trendy YORKVILLE-Blook Street area.

The city is much nicer in the spring/summer, of course, but if you're into outdoor activities, there's lots of nearby skating, skiing, tobogganing, etc.

Have fun...and much luck with the D_T_.

  8. Re: Pearlie's suggestions for a D_T_...

I personally find the Museum boring. It is one of the few places where I never went on a D_T_. Then again, that could be due to the numerous times I've been there when I was a kid in camp.

Ontario Science Centre is great if you are into that sort of thing. They also have an OmniMax theatre, a "curved dome" IMAX theatre. (Bit of trivia: IMAX is a Canadian invention and the first IMAX theatre in the world was the Cinesphere at Ontario Place.)

If you are the type who likes hotel lobbies then I would suggest the Royal York Hotel in the heart of downtown. From there, it is accessible to many of the nice parts of downtown, including the CN Tower (ten min walk).

And, check out the tower. I would suggest it for a day where it it clear and sunny out.
