ReplyDeleteWith all due respect, not so wise friend.
Once heard over the following thought:
When Noah leaves the Ark the first thing that he does is plant grapes and make wine. What follows is one of the more depressing set of events we find in Chumash. Noah becomes drunk and is embarassed in front of his children, only some of whom act correctly in coming to his aid.
Many see what took place as a result of Noah choosing the wrong course of action from the outset, that wine should not have been what to begin the "new world" with.
Wrong.
The mistake was not in the making of the wine, Noah was correct in that step. He came out of the Ark and saw a world that had been desimated, destroyed to the 'nth degree. What was needed at that point in time was an influx of joy & hapiness, simcha. The idea was to make wine and engage in simcha so as start things off on a good note.
However, Noah then made a critical mistake. He took the wine and went into his tent. He decided to enjoy the simcha by himself, alone. He did not see to it that others were joined in this establishment of joy in the new world. And that was wrong, and that is what led the to the events that followed; because simcha is a unique thing. Simcha is from those few things in this world that the more you divide it, the larger it gets. The more that people share in it, the greater the original.
Wine was the correct first step, but only if followed by the correct second step of giving it to others as well as enjoying it yourself.
--then again this could be completely off the point and have been wildly off topic. I can never tell when I veer away from the sarcasm and general one liners.
"Some Things...
ReplyDelete...just aren't meant for this blog"
Doesn't make this any less true :)
If it's private, why even mention it here?
ReplyDeleteG - The point was in terms of the blog... :) But fair points in general - we spent the time with good friends, but they need not be shared with the world.
ReplyDeleteBob - Fair question. Private answer. :)
WHAT?! I shlep out from Kalamazoo to see you in the pouring rain...at some ungodly hour...and yet...we aren't your friends?!
ReplyDeleteHarumph.
I guess that's why you abducted me in the first place!
While this post is a little baffling :), I'd rather that than read about whatever it is and think to myself "Is nothing sacred?!"
