ReplyDeletenow I get why my husband doesn't allow wigs...
most of my hats cost $20 or less.
and those are considered at least half price of the normal rates.
ReplyDeleteKollelmama: whoa! that's crazy.. Is it really hidur mitzva to go into debt to buy someone else's hair?!
ReplyDeleteEzzie,
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with this post.
We need to organize a march madness bracket pool.
DGEsq - Um, as you know, I host one ever year. This year is no different. You'll get the invite soon...
ReplyDeleteNo it's obviously no mitzva to buy a nicer or more expensive sheitel, just some people, and I know myself for instance, feel better about covering their hair, when they have something nice to cover it with. If you have nice hair, it's not the most enjoyable thing to cover.
ReplyDeletethere is something wrong with getting hair that looks so good its no longer tzinus. As frum women in the goyish workplace can attest- no-one normal walks around with huge bottle curls in their hair bouncing about. most people throw thier hair in a poney and viola. Sheitals have become yet another way to get the most out of halachic restrictions. Tznius needs to be approached wholistically and I dont see how having a long flowing sheital or a sheital bounces with your every move and draws attention can be considered tznius.
ReplyDeleteAnon - That's part of the machlokes as to what the purpose of covering one's hair is. The way most people seem to see it is that there is nothing wrong with people dressing in a way that's attractive - covering one's hair is not for the purpose of making one unattractive. It's because the hair is under the category of ervah. Harry Maryles' blog had a great debate about this about a month ago. (Haemtza.blogspot.com)
ReplyDeleteNo question that a woman should always feel as good about herself as possible.
ReplyDeleteI just worry about people who can't afford it who see it as another "halachic" expense & group it in the same category as mehudar tfillin or mezuzot.
