There's also the little issue of the shadchans (professional or otherwise) *thinking* that they know what's best for the individual girl/guy, but not REALLY knowing. A third party who doesn't know either of the parties well and has just been paid/asked to do this... may use good judment, but in the end will have to rely on very superficial information. I think good friends and people who've known the families for a very long time and who understand the individual parties well have much better chance of finding the "right person".
