Swastikas In My Hallway (Pictures)

Here are the pictures of what was drawn on the wall outside of our apartment and what was poured on the floor... the view is from the doorway of our apartment. As you can see, it's pretty obviously by kids and not all that terrible - but still, it is what it is.

  1. Is that the oil on the floor (I sure hope it is)?

Look, they may be kids, but:

    1. It's a fair good bet their parents are just as insane as they are (isn't there a Jewish saying that a child says nothing that he is not repeating from home?).

    2. You shouldn't be so quick to shrug this off as a child's play. More disturbing than the swastikas were the threats made to your wife. I may be paranoid in nature, but you can not argue with Bayes- the probability of an incident is only increased when there is a precursor. Also, any idiot can do something stupid.

  2. R2Jb - Yes, that's the oil.

    1) Yes.

    2) We're not [hence the ending]. The threats were also by a kid (a 16-yr old sister babysitting for the rest), but the police came and took care of that one.

It's interesting... it's very easy to see how situations in Israel quickly spiral out of control. People don't realize that "kids throwing stones" generally means a whole lot more.

  6. The throwing of stones is an expression of contempt. (Every year at the Hajj, there's a "throw a stone at the devil" event. Throwing stones has real religious connotations.

Given that the children wouldn't know what Swastikas are, it's safe to assume that it came from the parents.

It's disturbing; but as long as it doesn't escalate it remains disturbing and nothing worse.

  7. David - true. Which is why it wasn't reported the first time. But now, it's like my neighbor said: "We could have had two police reports by now, and instead we have none."
