The Cleveland Curse

Cavs lose, getting blown out in the second half by the Pistons. The team, excluding Lebron James, shot about 20% from the field the entire game - pathetic.

Just for good measure, ABC took out a minute of air time to show: The Catch, Red Right 88, The Drive, The Fumble, The Shot, & The Blown Save. How sweet of them.

Last Browns' NFL Championship: 1964. They've never made a Super Bowl.

Last Indians' World Series Win: 1948.

Last Cavaliers' NBA championship: Never. They've never made it to one.

Ugh. Let's Go Tribe! (??!!)

  2. Dude. You've got LeBron and he's 21. You should have a couple of good years to look forward to. :-)

  3. Chana - I purposely left that line out... :(

    JA - We're hoping. We're hoping.

  4. They need help, period.

Hughes, Gooden, Z are all solid players - but they're not going to scare anybody. They need a PG who can score, and they need to learn to play better D (though they did improve that this series). Right now, their offense plays a 3-on-5.

  8. Jack - Yeah, if Lebron would have missed a buzzer-beater from the top circle.

    Stacey - Of course!

  9. Ill tell ya what I watched the drive game live in the basement at WITS...listened to the fumble gamne in the old WITS dining room....and to me, Jordan's shot was THE defining moments in BULLS history..the time when Bulls shot to the top...

Could be worse....you could be a Cub fan

Oh, if I ever hear a Cubs fan whine... What the hell!? They're not even necessarily more heart-breaking than the Indians, let alone that they had... oh... what's his name... MICHAEL JORDAN!?!? Their basketball team won SIX NBA championships in the 90's, their football team won in the 80's, and they had the best basketball player BL (before LeBron) to ever play, and they're whining about their baseball team?!

If they're really so troubled, they should stop getting drunk before games and root for the White Sox.

[/rant] Sorry, pet peeve of mine. Stupid Chicago fans.

  11. Oh, my Dad was AT the Drive, I remember watching The Fumble in my parents' room, I locked myself in the bathroom after seeing The Shot at my grandparents' house, and I remember watching Counsell's sac fly as we were all sitting there dumbfounded that Hargrove took out Mike Jackson for Mesa in the 9th. And I still remember someone on the Indians getting called out at 2nd in the top of the 9th on a phantom play (the guy was a foot off second on a DP attempt), and he would have scored on the base hit of the following guy. An insurance run they didn't have. Go look at the tape. ARGH.

  12. Don't be too down. This team, who nobody thought had a chance in this series, really put themselves on the map as a team to be reckoned with in the future. They took the best team in the league to 7 games! That's amazing. Yesterday night's game could have gone either way. But, it also really something that's true. Lebron can be compared to Jordan every minute of every day, but until he gets a good supporting cast like Jordan did with Pippen and Rodman. Jordan didn't win a championship until he had that supporting cast. Lebron's a real leader. I see that now. You'll see a championship in Cleveland soon.

  13. OC - Gracious winner.

What's amazing are two things: Lebron has no support; Lebron is 21.

Jordan was 29 before he ever won a championship, and it was a few years before he won a playoff series. Jordan beat the Jazz for his last championship.

Lebron, in Year 3, averaged 31/7/6. He won a playoff series, and almost beat the best team in the league on his own. The Pistons are better than a few of the West champs that Jordan beat, if not all - and yet, he almost did it anyway. Can Ferry ever get him that last piece? These guys around him aren't bad, they just seem worse when they're trying to play above their level offensively. Hughes is an incredible 3rd threat - not a 2nd one. Z is a good player - but he doesn't force defenses to lay off Lebron. Etc.

They need that guy who can consistently put in 22 points when Lebron is covered. They don't have that.

  14. Yeah, here's a very good article that supports my theory. I think you'll appreciate it.

  16. G - :(

    OC - Thanks.

BE - Cleveland has had both: Atrocious teams who lose lose lose, and heartbreakers.
