I once found this Kiruv book...for Islam. It is literally an Islamic version of the Discovery books full of different kinds of proofs from the Koran and science. Anyways, I decided to keep it incase I had to show some kiruv clown how the same arguments can work for anything. So I keep this book in my book shelf with all my other books. Now, for some reason, everytime my two year daughter wants to look and play with a book, she manages to select this one, and it has happened three times.
Should I be concerned? :)
Has she started going around in a hijab yet? :-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, just put the book away somewhere less accessible.
Maybe a higher shelf will solve your problem.
ReplyDeleteFunny... my kids have never even touched my New Testament, Quran or Book of Mormon...
ReplyDeleteIf she starts referring to you as "my father the dhimmi" you might want to be concerned.
ReplyDeleteBuy her a 'harb' and take on 'dar al harb'.
ReplyDeletemy favorite Muslim proselytizing/kiruv argument is the one that says that the Qur’ān is "the most beautiful literature ever, therefore it must be divine".
ReplyDeleteI whip that one out whenever someone tells me that the divinity of the Torah precludes literary analysis.
"Anyways, I decided to keep it incase I had to show some kiruv clown how the same arguments can work for anything."
ReplyDeleteEzzie,
I think you've gone a bit too far here [perhaps evidence of how participating in the Jblogosphere corrupts even the best of people]. Is it really appropriate to refer to Mekarvim as "clowns"?
They may not all be as perfect as you, but "clowns"? For the most part, they're some of the hardest working, most sincere folks you're likely to find even if some of their arguments are not foolproof. Why resort to this tactic?
Anon - I suggest you reread the post. I did not write the post.

Please explain.
Is it really appropriate to refer to Mekarvim as "clowns"?
Depends.
For the most part, they're some of the hardest working, most sincere folks you're likely to find
Agreed.

ReplyDeleteOoops - I had no idea that others posted here as well as you. I am not a regular here but I do know you [from a distance] and I thought this was not something I'd expect out of you. I'm still not sure why you'd allow it here on your blog...
"perhaps evidence of how participating in the Jblogosphere corrupts even the best of people
Please explain."
As I said, this attitude is what I'd expect of certain segments of the JB, but not of you. I'm relieved to hear that it wasn't you.
"Is it really appropriate to refer to Mekarvim as "clowns"? Depends."
If it depends, then don't say it in an unqualified manner. Of course, you didn't say it but that was my point.
I apologize for the accusation but really do wish that you'd disallow this sort of stuff on your blog.
Got it. I allow just about anything from my guests, within reason; in this specific case, I understand why the blogger at hand termed them kiruv "clowns". Another person who knows me (a cousin) actually had the same difficulty with the post, emailed me, and I explained; it is important to understand background before judging.

certain segments of the JB
Ah, an important addition. :)
Feel free to e-mail me. It's the blog name at gmail.

and I will explain why I think they are clowns.
Ezzie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the response. I'll leave it at this for now. Something tells me that you and I just aint gonna see eye to eye on this one.
HH,
see my response to Ezzie ;)
Anon - Like I said, background is everything. Feel free to email myself or HH. You might change your mind about a lot. :)
