- An interesting piece in the Forward on the battle against eating disorders and the like in the Orthodox Jewish community, talking a little about Renfrew and the OU-sponsored upcoming day-long conference featuring their documentary "Hungry to be Heard".
- A father calls for his son's suicide to be an appeal for awareness regarding mental illnesses.
- An xckd titled "Helping" that serves as a good reminder to help people find professional help:
Please take the Jewish Economics Survey and help build the economic future of the Orthodox Jewish community.

That comic is really creepy.
ReplyDeleteYep.
ReplyDeleteit really is creepy. and real. did you know that hamodia started a new column on mental illness last week?
ReplyDeleteand real....yes.
ReplyDeletedid you know that hamodia started a new column on mental illness last week? No, I did not. Was it good?
i don't remember, and now i can't find it. it was in the magazine, the first segment was on myths. i didn't really read it all that well, cuz i only do "leisure reading" on shabbos, and that wasn't leisure...
ReplyDeleteS'ok... I'll see if I can find it. Thanks!
ReplyDeletei was a little upset by the lack of mention about sexual abuse in the article, although not surprised. and i shouldn't have been upset either, i'm just obsessed...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, there is still a very strong stigma (similar to the one a commenter expressed on your blog recently about an excellent unprinted letter) that anything to do with sex is not fit for public consumption - even sexual abuse, which needs to be taught to protect people. :(
ReplyDeleteyou're telling me?? even the word "abuse" without "sexual" before it is still rarely mentioned, and when it is, it's all hush-hush, it doesn't happen here, only non-frum and all that garbage!
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree with you...
ReplyDeleteSigh...so true. But still hard.
ReplyDeleteBut still hard..
ReplyDeleteEspecially if you KNOW you can't help someone who keeps looking to you for help anyway.
