It's that time of year again...

..S'FIRA

On our drive back home from NY, i subjected my poor husband to various Jewish a capella CDs. After listening to a few tracks of CD Eichler's latest "A.K.A. Pella" album, "Adaption" my husband turned to me and said,
"You know when all of these guys are together, one of them says "I sing
lead vocals", another one says "I sing harmony"... I just feel bad for the guy
who has to say "I sing guitar".

  3. Hehe, wow. Btw, my favorite group to listen to during sfira is Rockapella. If you don't know who they are (and if you listen to secular music), they are sooooo gooooood.

  5. Oooh, so "Stam" wasn't good enough, you had to be "JUSTStam", eh? :)

    Very funny. :)

Better than the kazoo guy, though...

And Erachet - Rockapella is awesome!

  9. Well she sneaks around the world from Kiev to Carolina,
She's a sticky-fingered filcher from Berlin down to Belize,
She'll take you for a ride on a slow boat to China,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

Steal their Seoul in South Korea, make Antarctica cry Uncle,
From the Red Sea to Greenland they'll be singing the blues,
Well they never Arkansas her steal the Mekong from the jungle,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

She go from Nashville to Norway, Bonaire to Zimbabwe,
    Chicago to Czechoslovakia and back!

Well she'll ransack Pakistan and run a scam in Scandinavia,
Then she'll stick 'em up Down Under and go pick-pocket Perth,
She put the Miss in misdemeanor when she stole the beans from Lima,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Oh tell me where in the world is... Oh tell me where can she be?

Ooh, Botswana to Thailand, Milan via Amsterdam,
    Mali to Bali, Ohio, Oahu...!

Well she glides around the globe and she'll flimflam every nation,
    She's a double-dealing diva with a taste for thievery,
Her itinerary's loaded up with moving violations,
Tell me where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?

on another note, does anyone know of a good jewish cd with singing only, not any of that "i'm the guitar" in the background?

  10. omg pn. hahahaha. SWEET!

Oh, and my answer to the whole sefira thing: CHAZANUS! It's awesome. Although every album I buy seems to have that same stupid pipe organ in the background.
But here's a good website to find Jewish/Israeli/Yiddish music, some even sefira worthy: http://faujsa.fau.edu/

  11. Yay! Carmen Sandiego fan club! Can I join?

Personally, I'm a huge fan of a cappella in general--I listen to it even when it isn't sefira. In addition to Rockapella, I love the a cappella shabbos CD, but most of the songs do have "I'm the guitar" in the background. There's a fantastic little known a cappella group called Bat Kol that has four recorded songs and no guitar simulation--and Pobody, since you're female, I could hook you up if you wanted...let's just say I have connections. ;)

  13. SJ, PN already heard the CD when she visited me. ;)

I loved Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego when I was a kid. I wanted to be on that show soooo badly, I was a geography whiz and I probably would've done well. Ah well, I'm about 14 years too late for that...

  14. the one time of year when jewish music actually becomes halfway listenable...when it is sans the music.

And therefore, sans all those TRUMPETS. Did anyone ever notice that Jewish music has a LOT of trumpets in it?

    WATCH YOUR BACK!

PN also forgot, "Monday through Friday at five!"

  15. So I just watched those AKA Pella videos (that's how bored I am right now obviously...) and a couple of things. The first one I've seen like a long time ago, maybe at least a year ago. Monsey represent. (They sold the store a while ago too) And the second video, the guy at the end who's like, "come on, let me go to Hollywood" is a friend of mine from the firehouse. More Monsey stuff. And I think like half of the group AKA Pella were seniors in Ner when I was in ninth grade. They were in my brothers class. Wierd. The world is getting way too small.

  16. Two more thumbs up for Carmen Sandiego! It's thanks to her I was always at the top of my class in geography.
