The problem was that what we learned was so irrelevant to what you actually end up needing at work - in the end, you'll need to learn it on the job.

The good ones, though, can be creative and figure out how to use the pieces they know to come up with new/better ways of doing things.

If someone's that good at Excel, then the company should use him as an internal auditor: Have him look at the various spreadsheets and processes that are there and see if there's a simpler way to have them work.Ezziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12494592434522239195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13326001.post-89489945023837969792010-01-03T15:40:02.905-05:002010-01-03T15:40:02.905-05:00And yes, I use the all advanced stuff.

And yes, I use the all advanced stuff.

I have a guy working for me who may know more Excel than anyone else in the building (it's a BIG company, not all in one building), but he's not yet ready to advance because of lack of knowledge/lack of creativity in other areas.

Is MS Access relegated to graduate school? It's more about learning various functions and the like, not basics. I wish it had taught far more, though - it stuck to items that anyone who'd used Excel before for anything real found to be almost a joke.Ezziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12494592434522239195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13326001.post-76834817679442584832010-01-03T11:51:49.995-05:002010-01-03T11:51:49.995-05:00Tesyaa - There are colleges that give courses in W...Tesyaa - There are colleges that give courses in WORD.

...Yep. :)

My brother took a college computers class and they learned Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and something else.Erachethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00660802321998349072noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13326001.post-50689643597469194682010-01-03T08:12:49.059-05:002010-01-03T08:12:49.059-05:00There are colleges that give courses in Excel? We didn't get to pivot tables, but took care of vlookup, data tables, and of course ifs, nested ifs, and many nested ifs. I have a feeling I won't love public accounting either, but hoping to find a niche in IT auditing or some cross between IT and finance.AStudentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13326001.post-60916699794405145272009-12-31T13:41:56.017-05:002009-12-31T13:41:56.017-05:00And to think we knew you way back when. And to think we knew you way back when.Jack Steinerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16625864271071630940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13326001.post-28053345222946526412009-12-31T01:35:51.473-05:002009-12-31T01:35:51.473-05:00LOLLOLEzziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12494592434522239195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13326001.post-10564890524027644532009-12-31T00:11:14.441-05:002009-12-31T00:11:14.441-05:00GO TEAM!GO TEAM!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
