BONUSES!

Where were you guys when the auto workers had to accept lower wages, less health care, etc. etc.? Oh yeah, bitching about how the unions are responsible for bringing down American car companies.

This one idiot's bonus could pay for health care for many auto workers.

Oh, but it's the principle! Contracts are sacred! Well, yeah, if it's not legal to tax that money back, we shouldn't do it. But the sheer chutzpah of millionaires complaining that they are losing their bonuses when their company would be bankrupt without public support is insane. You take the public support, you should be willing to tighten your own belt too. You don't want the support, well, lookee, there aren't going to be any bonuses anyway, are there?

It's not about punishment. It's about directing the PUBLIC money to where it's needed most rather than to some jackass's personal bank account.

Republicans are joking about pitchfork wielding mobs, but at most other points in history where the overclass royally fucked over everybody else the way that AIG and others did there would be actual mobs wielding actual pitchforks (and swords and bombs and guns.)

Now the mobs are a lot more passive. Wall Street has been skimming more and more and more off the top of the economy for about two decades now until it reached absolutely absurd proportions and Wall Streeters with no apparent sense of irony can act OUTRAGED when they don't get their $750,000 bonuses in a year where their company practically exploded and brought the whole world down with it.Jewish Atheisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04616617537150446818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13326001.post-63386105179450544652009-03-25T16:55:00.000-04:002009-03-25T16:55:00.000-04:00I read the article too and am disgusted by all of ...I read the article too and am disgusted by all of the pitchfork-wielding congressman who want to flay ALL of Wall Street, when it was really only a tiny percentage of the employees who could be held responsible for the financial mess. These government officials, on the other hand, get away with cracked out populist pork which, to some extent, is benefiting the very people who defaulted on their mortgages (and only got the mortgages because the government lowered credit standards).

So I guess if you default on your mortgage, blame the people making the money and then get the government to pay for programs to help you.

Change we can believe in!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11562993515416288787noreply@blogger.com
